Itongadol.- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton visited the Western Wall and the Western Wall tunnels on Tuesday, accompanied by Kotel Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovich.
Bill Clinton visits Western Wall ahead of Presidential Conference
The former U.S. president, in Israel to attend the Israeli Presidential Conference opening Tuesday night, placed a note in the historic wall and expressed how excited he was to be there.
Clinton said he has a great affinity for the historic site, as it provides a window into what life was like in Jerusalem in different periods throughout history.
Clinton will be honored Wednesday morning with Israel\’s highest civil distinction, at the opening plenary session of the fifth Israeli presidential conference in Jerusalem.
The President\’s Award is an expression of gratitude, akin to the French Legion of Honor or the American Medal of Freedom, bestowed upon certain individuals and organizations for their contribution to the State of Israel or humanity.
Clinton was selected for the award to honor his humanitarian work and that of the William J. Clinton Foundation, which he founded.
Past recipients include U.S. President Barack Obama, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Maestro Zubin Mehta, Rabbi Adin Even Yisrael-Steinsaltz and the Rashi Foundation.
The award will be given at the start of the three-day long Facing Tomorrow conference, hosted by President Shimon Peres. The conference will comprise a plethora of plenary sessions, panel discussions, roundtables and master classes, featuring prominent societal leaders behind a wide spectrum of initiatives.
