Resident of Lod accused of selling secret IDF intelligence

Itongadol.- A Lod resident was indicted at the Central District Court on charges of espionage, conspiracy and theft of confidential military intelligence, it was cleared for publication on Thursday. 

 
According to the indictment, Salman Jiribia, 29, conspired with reserve soldier Benny Rabayev, promising to pay him NIS 50,000 in return for secret military information regarding IDF presence on the Israeli border with Egypt, including the number of troops in the area, the placement of forces along the border fence, the location of observation towers as well as the time and location of exercises and drills. 
 
Jiribia then allegedly passed on the military intelligence to unknown parties for large sums of money.
 
An intelligence officer in the IDF confirmed that the intelligence Jiribia was selling was accurate and could have major security implications if the information was successfully passed along to the third parties in question. 
 
When questioned by police forces, Jiribia denied any connection or knowledge of the crimes and claimed to have been framed.
 
Jiribia has been in police custody since June 30. The indictment requested remand without bail due to the sensitive nature of the case.
