Itongadol.- The IDF has deployed an Iron Dome battery in the Ashdod area amid fears of renewed rocket fire into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip.
A security source confirmed that the deployment of the Iron Dome battery comes as part of preparations for a possible escalation in tensions in connection with the Palestinian prisoner who is in serious condition due to a 65-day hunger strike.
Muhammad Allan, an Islamic Jihad operative, had been hunger striking in protest of his detention without trial. The High Court of Justice ruled Wednesday to suspend his detentiondue to his failing health, which includes brain damage. He remains in serious condition in Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon and his life remains in danger.
The Islamic Jihad warned last week that should Allan die, the Gaza terror group would no longer be obligated to uphold its truce with Israel.
“The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed branch of Islamic Jihad, announces that if Allan falls as ashahid (martyr), it will be a crime of the occupation toward our prisoners and our people that will force us to respond forcefully, ending our obligation to the cease-fire,” the group Islamic Jihad warned.
