Dagan: My loyalty lies first with state, not PM

 Former Mossad chief Meir Dagan addressed the prospects of a strike on Iran on Thursday during a session of the Presidential Conference in Jerusalem. The panel was also attended by Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat and Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Daniel Kahneman.

"The fact that I am no longer in office does not mean that the level of my responsibility or my desire to see Israel thrive has stopped. Remember, my loyalty lies first with the State of Israel, not the prime minister."

"Nevertheless, I have to say that if I was given an order from the prime minister and the defense minister to attack Iran, against my own beliefs, I would do it."

Dagan said that public debate is crucial for a democratic society. "That is why I have no intention of keeping quiet when there is an issue I find important for the security and existence of Israel."
