Itongadol.- Funds to be allocated toward improving neighborhood’s infrastructure, according to municipality.

The Jerusalem Municipality announced Thursday that it intends to invest NIS 50 million into the development of the south-east Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Homa, also known as Homat Shmuel.

According to the municipality, which worked in coordination with the Construction Ministry, the funds will be allocated toward improving the neighborhood’s infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, parks, children’s playgrounds, sporting areas and street lighting.

Construction in the contested community is part of a large-scale project approved in August 2011 to build roughly 1,000 units in the area, for which tenders were issued in April 2012.

“In the near future, residents of Homat Samuel will see our great investment in all areas of life in the neighborhood,” Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said in a statement announcing the investment. Approximately 25,000 Jews presently live in Har Homa.
