With summer vacation dwindling to an end, 86,166 passengers are expected to transition through Ben Gurion Airport
As the summer holiday enters its final two weeks, tens of thousands of Israelis go abroad for vacation everyday. Thursday is expected to see the busiest day at Ben-Gurion Airport in the summer of 2016, with 86,166 expected to take off or land.
Overall, 42,972 passengers on 248 flights are expected to depart Ben-Gurion Airport, while 40,194 passengers on 237 flights are expected to arrive.
So far, in the months of July and August alone, there have been some 4 million passengers in Ben-Gurion Airport. This is an increase of 4 percent relative to the summer of 2015. In July, 1.8 million passed through, while August saw another 2.7 million. This also translates to more than 23,000 flights in the summer months.
The preferred destinations of Israelis this summer have been Greece, the United States, Italy, Germany and Turkey, which is used for many connecting flights.
During the course of the summer, a number of airlines have begun operations at Ben-Gurion Airport, including Cobalt, Tus Airways of Cyprus, Hainan Airlines of China, Small Planet Airlines of Lithuania and Bulair of Bulgaria.
