Yoon Chul Shin, driving a car covered with politically charged writing and images on a cross-country mission to “desecrate” temples was arrested Thursday morning near one of the sites for the Jewish Maccabi Games.

Yoon Chul Shin, 53, of Berkeley, Calif, was spotted about 9:30 a.m. driving his radically designed blue Toyota Celica on Roxbury Road near Westhill High School, where a lacrosse game was being played. The game was part of the JCC Maccabi Games and ArtsFest, which has drawn thousands from around the world to Stamford this week for the six-day sports and arts contest.

Officers pulled Shin over near Temple Beth El and a police bomb-sniffing dog indicated there was an explosive compound or mixture inside the vehicle. However, the bomb squad did not find any devices or explosive materials during a more than two-hour search, Police Chief Jon Fontneau said.

Police evacuated the temple and closed Roxbury Road during the search.

Shin posted a video online last month, saying he planned to “desecrate” Jewish temples during his cross-country journey, according to police.

“Now I’m on a (expletive) mission all of you Jewish (expletive) will be cleansed from this (expletive) planet,“ he said in the video, according to police.
