Itongadol.- A pro-Israel Swedish politician is a rarity in a time when Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom criticize Israel at every chance they get.

One such rare politician is Lars Adaktusson, 61, who was elected to the European Parliament in 2014 as a representative of the Christian Democrats party.

Adaktusson told Ynet on Tuesday that Sweden "needs to be much more supportive of the only democracy in the Middle East, which is Israel."

He went on to lament that "we have for too long seen Israel as the main problem instead of seeing Israel\’s surroundings with the different terror groups and different dictatorships."

For 35 years, Adaktusson worked as a journalist and TV presenter, stationed among others in Washington, Moscow and Sarajevo in Bosnia. He also covered the Middle East and reported on terror attacks in Israel and refugee camps in Gaza.
