Netanyahu: Israel to Increase Security to Contend With Recent Spate of Attacks

"I held a special meeting this morning with the defense minister, the public security minister and the transportation minister, on how to deal with what appears to be a rise in terror attacks, both in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria," Netanyahu told ministers at the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem. "We will augment our forces and expand our fortification of vehicles in order to preserve the security of Israel\’s citizens."
 

The Israel Police has a special role in this task in this as well as all efforts to preserve law and order, Netanyahu said, seguing into the topic of the new candidate for police commissioner.
 

"I fully support the public security minister in his efforts to appoint the best man for the job of Israel Police commissioner," Netanyahu said. "Gal Hirsch is the right person at the right time. He was a moral and ethical officer, he has great abilities to make change and contribute to the strengthening of the Israel police and the strengthening of law and order in the state."
 

Netanyahu\’s announcement regarding increased security follows a week of suspectedt terror attacks.
 

An Israeli citizen was lightly wounded on Sunday morning in an apparent drive-by shooting at the Jit junction, near the West Bank settlement of Kedumim. Late Saturday, an Israeli soldier was lightly wounded after being hit by a car outside a military outpost in the West Bank, south of Hebron, in a suspected vehicular terror attack. Last week, a Palestinian man stabbed a Border Police officer in Jerusalem\’s Old City, lightly wounding him.
