Itongadol.- America\’s largest society of historians on Monday rejected a resolution proposed by proponents of the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.
Supporters of Israel in the American Historical Association (AHA), prevented the passage of the resolution brought forth by activists from the independent group Historians Against the War, calling to halt investments and impose sanctions on Israel.
At its annual meeting in New York, the AHA voted 144 to 55 against any further pursuit of resolutions that denounce Israel.
Jeffrey Herf, professor of history at the University of Maryland, said that the decision signifies that in 2015 the AHA will not accept any BDS resolution or other such proposals denouncing Israel and suggesting to boycott its academia.
"This is a significant day, a day when the momentum of BDS ran up against academic integrity and respect for evidence," he stressed.
