Itongadol.- A Jewish fraternity house at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, was targeted with anti-Semitic graffiti, with swastikas spray-painted on its walls on Sunday morning, just after the end of Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days in Jewish tradition.
The timing of the attack on Alpha Epsilon Pi house underscored the offensiveness of the message.
"On behalf of our community, I denounce this abhorrent act," university president Jim Wagner said in a statement issued to the media.
"It is an offense against a Jewish fraternity and the Jewish members of our community, and it is a repugnant, flagrant emblem of anti-Semitism. It is also an offense against the entire university," he said.
"Among the many pernicious things the swastika symbolizes, in the last century it represented the most egregious and determined undermining of intellectual freedom and truth-seeking. In short, its appearance on our campus is an attack against everything for which Emory stands. … Emory University will not tolerate such acts."
The Emory police have launched an investigation into the incident and have increased their patrol presence in the area.
The Alpha Epsilon Pi house at Emory University was established in 1920.
