Itongadol.- State Comptroller Yosef Shapira announced Wednesday that he has decided to launch an inquiry into the decision-making progress in both the political and military leadership during Operation Protective Edge.
In addition, Shapira will investigate the IDF and Israeli government\’s investigation mechanisms.
The state comptroller\’s announcement stated he decided to launch the investigation following accusations Israel has allegedly broken
international law, and that it allegedly does not investigate the IDF\’s actions as is required by international law.
The inquiry will take into consideration international law, Supreme Court rulings, conclusions of previous reports and conclusions of previous public inquiries. One such commission examined Israel\’s mechanisms of inquiry and investigation into complaints and accusations on violations of international warfare law. This commission outlined guidelines for the work of these mechanisms.
The comptroller also decided that the internal defense establishment\’s inspection of the issue of terror tunnels threat in different sectors will be expanded to include additional issues, such as the homefront\’s preparedness and the Homefront Command\’s operations during the Gaza offensive, with an emphasis on defense policies, Israeli deterrence, ensuring bomb-protection for all civilians within rocket range, the treatment of population on the front line and its PR policies.
The state comptroller\’s office has recently received dozens of complaints about Operation Protective Edge.
