Itongadol.- Pope Francis will receive a delegation of Argentinian jewish leaders on January 16th, Claudio Epelman, Latinamerican Jewish Congress´s chief executive, said to the Jewish News Agency – AJN. The institution is working with Rabbi Skorka, rabbinical seminar´s principal, to visit the pontiff, in his first meeting with the Argentinian jewish community.
The delegation of 15 members will have the opportunity of speaking to the Pope and moving forward a path to improve the relationship with jews and catholics. Among this will be DAIA´s president, Julio Schlosser; FACCMA´s president, Javier Veinberg; and an important group of rabbis and community leaders that are working with the interfaith relations.
“It is important to outline the relationship that the Congress had developed with Buenos Aires´ archbishop, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, today Pope Francis, who had allowed us to strengthen the bond, to personalize a relationship and to develop different interreligious initiatives. When he was chosen and started his work as a Pope we have had the honor of keep on working with him and bring to him some of our concerns. I think that gives the Congress a unique opportunity, in the honor that represents to work with him”, Epelman said.
Besides, he outlined that the Pope is the first in history which had an important work and dialogue with the jewish community, prior to his term in the Vatican. “Bergoglio worked together in a task that was undeniable for him, that took upon his own person. From that moment there was a building in the activities, projects, analysis, with different members of the jewish community, most of which will have the opportunity to visit him and strengthen the personal bond, which comes with a strengthen of the institutional bonds”, he said.
