Itongadol.- Newly-elected Labor chairman Isaac Herzog vowed on Friday morning to unite the party, and work with all members of the faction to reclaim the nation\’s leadership for Labor.
"We are embarking on a new journey today, at the end of which we will once again be a large party that can challenge the [current] Israeli government," Herzog said in his victory speech at Tel Aviv\’s Beit Sokolow. "And this is a journey I will not make on my own."
Herzog was elected chairman of the Labor party on Friday morning, after opposition leader Shelly Yacimovich called him to concede the leadership race when it became apparent she could no longer catch up.
Yacimovich congratulated Herzog and the two of them agreed to work together to advance the goals of the party.
On his part, Herzog said he and Yacimovich have always worked well together and will continue to do so for the good of the party.
Herzog said he was determined to work with all members of the faction in order to restore Labor\’s political and social vision to the front and center of Israeli politics.
