Itongadol.- US Secretary of State John Kerry made no breakthrough in talks on Sunday with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on efforts to resume Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, a senior Palestinian official said.
"There is some progress but we can\’t say there\’s a breakthrough," said Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat after Kerry and Abbas ended their meeting.
Hamas on Saturday said peace talks with Israel would "not bring anything new" and would only perpetuate sectarian divisions, Palestinian news agency Ma\’an reported.
Amid US Secretary of State John Kerry\’s extended shuttle diplomacy between Israeli and Palestinian heads over the weekend the Islamist movement warned Fatah and the Palestinian Authority of the futility of negotiations, and deemed them a "mirage".
"We in Hamas look carefully at US Secretary of State John Kerry\’s efforts to re-launch the so-called peace process, which is based upon an American-Zionist agenda which sees settlements devour land and the Judaization of Jerusalem and holy sites," Ma\’an cited a statement from the group as saying.
