Report: 2 Palestinians injured by IDF fire

Palestinian media outlets said on Friday that two people were shot by IDF troops and Border Guard officers during the weekly protests in the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh.

The IDF responded by saying that the troops fired warning shots in the air after being pelted with stones.

According to the reports, one of the protesters, Malak Tamimi, was hit by a bullet that pierced his hand and then penetrated his hip. He was first taken to a hospital in the nearby town of Salfit, but was transferred to a medical center in Ramallah after receiving initial treatment.

Another demonstrator was said to have been shot in the head, although no details about his condition were available

The IDF said in response that its troops used means of crowd control when they were surrounded and attacked by a group of 15 protesters. The army added that it would look into the event.

"This afternoon, a riot took place near the village of Nabi Saleh," the IDF Spokesperson\’s Unit said. "During the riot, Palestinian protesters threw stones at the security forces, who responded by using means of crowd dispersal.

"An initial probe into the event found that the protesters surrounded the troops and threw stones at them. The soldiers, who felt threatened, fired warning shots in the air."

According to the reports, dozens of Palestinian and international activists took part in Friday\’s rally. The demonstrators waved posters of Rachel Corrie, an American activist who was run over by an IDF tractor in 2003 while protesting against the demolition of Palestinian homes in Gaza.
