The Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Latin America Division, Alexander Ben Zvi, particpated in the central ceremony of the 17th anniversary of the bombing against the Israeli embassy. He asserted that “It is the Argentine government the one responsible for researching into the case,” but he confirmed Israel will help it if required, and it shall “never forget about it.”
Regarding the situation of Venezuela, where the community has already suffered two anti-Zemitic attacks in only one month, the officer declared that “Iran has a strong presence in the continent and such presence isn’t harmless. There is a greater radicalization of Islamic communities which were living quitely, and suddenly, in the North of Venezuela there appears “Hezbollah Venezuela.” This is our concern.”
When asked about the re sprout of anti-Zemitism registered in Argentina during the last war in Gaza, the chief diplomat in Latin America said that “any anti-Zemitic event must disturb the community and it must trigger an adecuate answer from the part of the media, the government, and the community.”
“Racism is a criminal act, there is not other word to describe it; it shall be judged and punished by all Argentineans, because it affects us all. This must be clear. They are minority groups, but we need to treat them with the full extent provided by the law,” said Ben Zvi, who also assured that his stay in Argentina is full of meetings with authorities of the government, and that the relations between Argentina and Israel “are excellent.”
