Itongadol.- Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem announced that Shira Banki , 16, who was critically injured in a stabbing attack at the Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade on Thursday, succumb to her injuries and died Sunday afternoon.

The Hadassah Medical Center also announced that her family has agreed to donate her organs.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent his condolences to the family of Shira Banki, calling for perpetrators of violence to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

"Shira was murdered for courageously supporting the principle that each and every person has the right to live their life in security and respect," Netanyahu stated.

"We will not allow this loathsome murderer to undermine the basic values upon which the Israeli society is based. We staunchly condemn this attempt to sew the seeds of hatred and violence among us and will act to bring the murderer to justice," he added.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat expressed deep sorrow over the news of Banki's untimely death. The mayor vowed to make the capital a more open and tolerant city.

"The murder of this young girl at the Gay Pride Parade on the streets of Jerusalem is a criminal offense," the mayor began. "We will continue to allow full freedom of expression in this city, we will continue to support all groups and communities, we will enhance education and tolerance for others in our school system, and we will not be deterred by those who are trying to prevent it."

Six people were stabbed at the annual Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade on Thursday by an ultra-Orthodox man who perpetrated a similar stabbing at the 2005 march.

Yishai Schlissel, of Modi’in Illit, was released from prison several weeks ago after serving 10 years in prison for his last attack, which wounded three people.

“I saw an ultra-Orthodox man stabbing everyone in his way,” Shai Aviyor, a witness, told Channel 2. “We heard people screaming, everyone ran for cover, and there were bloodied people on the ground.”

Police and medics said the attacker wounded six people.

The procession of thousands – which started at Independence Park in downtown Jerusalem shortly after 6:30 p.m. – was heading down Keren Hayesod Street when Schlissel lunged into the crowd, wildly stabbing the victims before being tackled by police. As police arrested him and cordoned off the crime scene, including all traffic on the major thoroughfare, Magen David Adom paramedics tended to the wounded before transferring them to the hospital.

Following the attack, the Judea and Samaria Police District said they were not required to track Schlissel following his release, even though he lives in their jurisdiction, because he committed his crime in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem District Police chief Moshe Edri said police didn’t have concrete intelligence that Schlissel was in attendance at the parade.

“We were prepared for every scenario, but our perimeter was breached,” he said. “This is a severe incident, and we will investigate to find out what caused this breach.”
