Itongadol.- Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyau on Monday afternoon held a follow-up Knesset discussion regarding the plan to strengthen security inJerusalem, which has been hard hit by a rising surge of brutal terrorist attacks in recent months.
In the meeting Netanyahu approved the plan written up by Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich (Yisrael Beytenu) and Police Chief Yohanan Danino, which outlines how the police presence is to be reinforced in the capital.
Defense Minister Moshe Ya\’alon (Likud) and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, as well as Israel Security Agency (ISA) director Yoram Cohen were alsopresent in the meeting, along with other senior security figures.
At the current stage, it was decided to add an additional 400 officers to the Jerusalem area, in addition to various technological means used to fight terror – Jerusalem police have already instituted surveillance balloons to track down terrorists.
From statistics presented in the discussion, it became clear that the operation dubbed "Guardians of the Walls" which was launched in October to strengthen Jerusalem security has already brought a certain decrease in the number of terror incidents.
Netanyahu ordered that police continue to keep up the high level of preparedness and wide deployment in the capital at the conclusion of the meeting.
The meeting comes on the same Monday that an indictment was filedagainst two Arab brothers from eastern Jerusalem, who were arrested before carrying out a terror attack in the capital for Hamas.
