Itongadol.- In the background of the crisis in US-Israeli relations and after Netanyahu canceled his meeting in Washington, DC, it was revealed that US President Barack Obama spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In a special interview with Jeffrey Goldberg in the Atlantic, the US President described his meeting with the Prime Minister angrily.

Over the last 5 months, Goldberg conducted interviews with Obama and other senior level officials in the government as a kind of a summary towards the end of Obama’s second term in office. In the interview, Obama stated that Netanyahu lectured him about the various threats that Israel faces in the Middle East region.

According to Goldberg, Obama had little patience for Netanyahu and other Middle Eastern leaders who have questioned his understanding of the region. In response, Obama stated: “Bibi, you need to understand something. I am the African American son of a single parent and I live here in this house. I live in the White House. I succeeded to be elected President of the US. You think I don’t understand what you stated but I do.”

According to Goldberg, Netanyahu was one of the leaders who disappointed Obama the most because he felt that Netanyahu had the ability to bring about a two-state solution but was “too fearful and politically paralyzed to do so.” However, Obama did not express any disappointment with Abu Mazen in the interview with Goldberg due to his constant refusal to hold peace talks with Israel, his support for the present wave of terror known as the Knife Intifada, and the constant incitement within the Palestinian Authority that results in the slaughter of Israeli citizens.

Obama was only disappointed with Netanyahu’s policies and angered that he had the chutzpah to question Obama’s understanding of the Middle East region. However, apparently, Netanyahu was not the only Middle Eastern leader who doubted that Obama understood the Middle Eastern realities sufficiently and some could argue that given the huge mess Obama was responsible for in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Iran, and other places throughout the Middle East region, their arguments about Obama’s lack of understanding did not come out of nowhere.
