Itongadol.- The United Nations human rights body called on Israel and the Palestinians to prosecute alleged war crimes committed in the 2014 Gaza war and to cooperate with the International Criminal Court\’s preliminary investigation.

The UN Human Rights Council debated the issue days before the first anniversary of Israel launching "Operation Protective Edge" in response to rockets fired by terrorists in the Hamas-ruled enclave into Israel.

The 47-member state Geneva forum adopted a resolution, presented by the Palestinian delegation backed by Muslim states, by a vote of 41 in favor, one against (the United States) and five abstentions. All European Union member states, including Britain, France and Germany, voted in favor.

Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon echoed his sentiments in a statement issued immediately after the vote.

"The Human Rights Council has once again proven today its irrelevance and detachment from reality," he said. "As the world around us goes up in flames – a serious terrorist attack in Egypt, continued anarchy in Syria, millions of refugees fleeing their homes, the Council continues to condemn Israel."

Nahshon claimed the decision was "the product of Palestinian effortsdesigned to demonize Israel and tie its hands in its legitimate struggle against the terror of militant Islam."
