Itongadol.- Every law passed by the Knesset since 1949 can now be found on the legislature\’s website.
Before this week, the Knesset\’s online database only included laws passed since 1999.
"Laws passed by the Knesset, even if they are from the state\’s early days decades ago, are both intrinsically and historically very important," Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein said.
"The fact that everything is open and online adds weight to the Knesset\’s transparency," Edelstein added. "I believe that additional projects in this area will be completed soon and will give the public comprehensive information on legislation from the Knesset\’s website." The Knesset archive scanned the legislation, which is now accessible to anyone visiting its website and is searchable via the law\’s name or number.
The database is the first part of a new Knesset project, meant to make all laws and their amendments over time readily available for free online. The laws will eventually include links to the process behind them, in the plenum and committees, and the different draft bills leading up to the final law passing.
