Itongadol.- Snow started to fall this morning in the Israeli capital city and the streets are now covered in white. Following this, it was decided to cancel school in the city and in a number of other regions where snow fell. In the north, snow already began to fall yesterday. Snow began to pile up in the Golan Heights and the Galilee peaks.
Route 1 was blocked in both directions. The road from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was cut off in the section between Latrun and the entrance to the Israeli capital city. On the way from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, the road was blocked while exiting from the city at the Harel Interchange.
“Given the estimations, the snow will continue to fall all morning and it was decided to cancel both schools and kindergartens today,” the Jerusalem Municipality stated. “The municipality urges parents to avoid traveling in the snow and to wait for an easing up. Exercise discretion and don’t take risks.” Even classes at the Hebrew University were canceled.
The heavy snow in Jerusalem doesn’t permit regular bus services within the city and therefore, it was decided to operate the buses in emergency mode, with a number of lines working on central routes. Before the bus lines will operate, snow plows will clean the routes before the buses.
The Binyamin Regional Council canceled school and transportation, as did Ofra, Beit El, Psgat, Eli, and Shilo. There will also be no classes in Efrat. In Tel Aviv this morning, hail fell and after that, there was heavy rain. So far, there has been more than 45 millimeters of rain within the city. The Tamar Regional Council also canceled school due to fears of flooding within the area. Snow may also reach the Negev Highlands tonight. Lake Kineret Levels, according to the Israeli Water Authority, rose another centimeter and stands at 211.37 this morning. Lake Kineret is still missing 2.57 meters to be considered full.
