Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is considering unilaterally declaring the Oslo Accords, as well as the economic and security agreements derived from the treaty, null and void, the London-based Arab newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported Tuesday.

Quoting PLO Executive Committee member Wasel Abu Yousef, the report said that the Palestinian president is considering presenting a motion to that effect to the Palestinian leadership once he returns from the UN General Assembly session, planned for next week.

According to the report, should such a motion be presented, it would be the first time the Palestinian leadership addresses the relevance of the 1993 agreement since its signing.

The London-based Arab newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi quoted Secretary General of the PLO\’s Executive Committee Yasser Abed Rabbo as saying that revoking the Oslo Accords was a "viable option" in light of what he called "the Israeli denial of the peace process."

"The issue is not just cancelling the agreement but also a new policy that may bring a better political alternative to solve the Palestinian case," Abed Rabbo told the newspaper.

The move, he added, is meant to bolster the Palestinian Authority\’s rule, as well as the role of the PA\’s institutions.
