Itongadol.- The Argentine Friends of Ben-Gurion University held the event «The free world against terrorism. Chronicles in first person with Alfredo Leuco», on December 11 at the Recoleta Grand Hotel.
The activity was coordinated by the former director of the General Archive of the Nation, Emilio Perina, and during his lecture, Leuco tearfully recounted his travel experience during the war against Hamas.
Among the attendees were the prominent constitutional lawyer Daniel Sabsay, the businessman Luis Ovsejevich, the Secretary of National Bioeconomy, Fernando Vilella, the lawyer Roberto Malkassian and the businessman Jorge Grimoldi.
During the meeting a message was delivered by the President of the University, Daniel Chamovitz, who emphasized: «We all know where we were at 6:30 a.m. on October 7, 2023. When we started to hear the sirens and started to see the news of what was happening around Gaza, only 40 kilometers away from our University. I have in my hand a piece of missile that fell here in our parking lot. We know about this danger all the time. But none of us had imagined the horror that would happen that day.»
Speaking to ItonGadol, Nava Rubenzadeh, the president of the Argentine Friends of Ben-Gurion University, said, «I was very moved to see the response of so many friends who joined us and Ben-Gurion University in sharing the experience lived by journalist Alfredo Leuco on his trip to Israel in the first moments after October 7.»
«As an Israeli who as a child lived through the war of ’48, I never imagined seeing this sad and horrific demonstration of hatred suffered by Israel in the face of Hamas terrorism. We have no other homeland than the one defended today by the Israeli people with their well-known solidarity and by the jaialim with their dedication of life and mutual encouragement thanking G-d in their songs,» she added.
“Living in the Diaspora, we must understand that from our commitment and responsibility Israel will be stronger in front of the world. This will make our children and grandchildren to be able to say with pride and their heads held high, that they are Jews, Am Israel Chai!», emphasized Nava Rubenzadeh.

During the event, the traditional lighting of Hanukkah candles took place.
Kaddish was said by Rabbi Ernesto Yattah Vice Rector of the Latin American Rabinical Seminary in Buenos Aires for the 3 Ben Gurion University doctoral students who were murdered as well as all the other Israelis who were massacred on Oct 7, kidnapped victims who were murdered and Israeli soldiers who perished in the war.
At the event, recognition was given to the former president of the DAIA, Ariel Cohen Sabban, who from his Ayuda Kehilati joined in collaborating with Ben-Gurion University and the Soroka Hospital.
Also present at the event were Jonathan Lemcovich, president of Hebraica; Eduardo Kirchuk, vice-president of Hacoaj; Aldo Donzis and Alberto Indij, former presidents of DAIA; businessman David Suttón; Mariano Caucino, former Argentine ambassador to Costa Rica and Israel; and scientist Norma Sbarbati Nudelman.
Finally, Nava Rubenzadeh expressed her «gratitude to Mrs. Violeta Teubal, who, following the legacy of the Teubal family’s philanthropy, immediately echoed this proposal, coming all the way from New York for the occasion. Both Mrs. Teubal and the Grand Hotel gave us this opportunity to entertain our friends».
