Itongadol.- A terror advisory has been issued in India as terror groups warned that they could target Israeli tourists or the Israeli embassy in the country.
According to India\’s CNN-affiliate IBN news, the police forces in New Delhi, as well as state police, have been advised on the situation. Security at the Israeli embassy and in the surrounding area will be stepped up, though special security instructions have not been issued for tourists.
The report said that the threats were made because of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi\’s announcement on May 31 that he would visit Israel later in the year. It would be a first for a sitting Indian prime minister.
Ties between Israel and India have steadily been warming recently, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Modi meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in September. In February, Defense Minister Moshe Ya\’alon met with Modi in New Dehli where the two discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties and Indian-Israeli cooperation on regional and global issues.
The last time Israelis in India were targeted was in in 2012 when Tali Yoshua Koren, an Israeli embassy worker and the wife of the embassy\’s chief security officer, was injured by a bomb in her car. The woman succeeded in driving to the Israeli embassy where she was evacuated to a nearby hospital. Three others were also injured in the attack.
In November 2008, a series of attacks in Mumbai by members of a Pakistan-based terror groupleft 166 people dead, including six at the Mumbai Chabad house. It was targeted along with luxury hotels, a train station and a popular cafe.
