Itongadol.- A Syrian mortar fell in the northern Golan Heights on Wednesday evening, lightly injuring one person. Magen David Adom medical crews said they evacuated the person to a hospital, as he suffered from a cut to the neck.

This is the second such incident in one day: Earlier, an Israeli soldier was hurt after a shell from Syria flew over the border. Three errant mortar shells from the fighting fell in Israeli territory, damaging a pair of vehicles. The IDF had responded, firing at a post belonging to the Syrian army, which it sees as responsible for all fire into Israel.

The cross-border gun fire comes amid fighting between rebel groups and soldiers loyal to the Assad regime – which has left the Quneitra border crossing in the hands of the Islamist fighters.

Fighting continued to rage on the area, as audible explosions could be heard across Golan Heights. Security sources monitoring the escalating situation have stated that it is likely the fighting will continue and that the Syrian army may now call for reinforcements.

The army had also instructed farmers and civilians to stay away from the border with Syria as the fighting flared between the two sides.
