Itongadol.- A rocket alert siren sounded in the Eshkol Regional Council on the border with the Gaza Strip on Thursday.
There was no immediate word if any rockets were fired into Israeli territory.
No injuries or damage were initially reported.
A spokesperson for the Eshkol Regional Council said that no rocket had initially been located and the IDF was investigating if a rocket was indeed fired, or the siren was a false alarm.
The siren came some two weeks after the IDF announced that it had located a tunnel infiltrating into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip.
It marked the first time that a tunnel had been located in Israeli territory since the end of Operation Protective Edge in summer 2014.
IDF officials surmised in the aftermath of the tunnel\’s discovery, that despite the existence of the underground portal into Israel, Hamas does not seek an escalation of hostilities at this time.
