Itongadol/AJN.- Rabbi Abraham Skorka, who recently traveled to Middle East with Pope Francis in an interfaith journey for peace, talked yesterday about the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel, in a dialogue with the Jewish News Agency – Agencia Judía de Noticias. "It makes me really sad. But, on the other hand, I think that we must not arrive to the conclusion that we have failed", he said last night, during a ceremony for the commemoration of the AMIA attack victims, in the Metropolitan Cathedral.

"What we tried to do there, I speak in plural because of the small contribution I made, is to show what must me done. That is the commitment that all the leaders and institutions should have in terms of peace. Asking for peace, not enflaming situations, being measured with every word, trying to eradicate all phrases that call for violence and trying to reach a lexicon of understanding", he said.
He also added: "There are two plates in the scale. One that is charged with violence and aggressiveness, in which there is no measure and is full of inappropriate matters, and the other that is worked with measurement, caring and love".
For Skorka, people "must try to create moments of reunion". "This is where we tried to put something", he said.
When he was asked about the situation between Israel and Hamas, he said: "What this must produce every person with good feelings is pain. For me, the blood and pain of ones or the others is exactly the same and, unfortunately, because of some fanatics, because of people that don´t appreciate life, they are both suffering".

The Rabbi also criticized the Palestinian leaders because they didn´t condemn the kidnap and murder of three Israeli teenagers – Eyal, Gil-Ad y Naftali – who where murdered last month. "What should theoretically have happened, what would have been something ideal, was a big Palestinian answer to abhor and condemn the act. It would have been an enormous input for peace. To to criticize the act, showing that this is not the way, criticizing those who support this kind of violence".

Skorka also said that he "would go to Middle East with the Pope again" and that he has been in touch with Francis, who expressed his "sorrows for what was going on".
