185 Israeli police officers from all the different units are currently visiting the concentration camps in Europe and will also participate in the March of the Living, ahead of Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Memorial Day), which will be observed on Monday.

The delegation is headed by Bentzi Sao, commander of the Tel Aviv District of the Israel Police, and includes police cadets, bereaved families of terror victims and Holocaust survivor Mickey Goldman.

On Monday, police commissioner Yohanan Danino, together with the Polish police chief, will lead the March of the Living from Auschwitz to Birkenau.

Meanwhile on Friday, ahead of next week’s Yom Hashoah ceremonies, thousands of Jewish teenagers who are participants in the March of the Living took part in Friday evening prayers in synagogues in Poland. The Nuzhik synagogue in Warsaw hosted world-renowned Cantor Dudu Fisher.

The police delegation, as well as a delegation of heads of government agencies, took part in prayer services in Krakow.

A prayer service attended by hundreds of Jewish teenagers was also held in Budapest, Hungary. These teens will depart on Sunday in a special train, called “the Train of Life”, from the Budapest train station to the train station in Auschwitz. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the deportation and murder of Hungary’s Jews at the hands of the Nazis.
