Windsurfing: Zubari grabs silver medal at European Championships

Itongadol.- Shahar Zubari won his first major medal in three years on Sunday, finishing the European windsurfing Championships in Brest, France, in second place.
The 26-year-old won back-to-back European titles in 2009 and 2010 after also claiming bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics and the 2008 World Championships.
However, Zubari had failed to scale the podium in any major competition since and could only manage a 19th-place finish in the 2012 London Olympics.
He rebounded with a promising display in the Worlds in March, finishing in seventh place, and clinched the silver medal in the continental championships on Sunday after ending the day’s three races in sixth, fourth and first place.
“I entered the competition with mixed emotions because I knew I was in good form although I hadn’t trained that much since the Olympics,” said Zubari, who is currently being coached by Athens 2004 gold-medalist Gal Fridman. “When you take that into account I’m really pleased with my result.”
Nimrod Mashiah ended the men’s competition in ninth place overall.
Ma’ayan Davidovich just missed out on a medal in the women’s event, finishing in fourth place overall, just two points behind Blanca Manchon.
“I gave my all, but I’ll just have to settle for fourth place this time,” said Davidovich.
Israel’s world champion Lee Korzits didn’t take part in the championships due to health reasons.
