In the morning previous to Iom Hashoa there has been an unusual antisemitic campaign through a Twitter tag that began last week.
Under the slogan “#JewIs”, hundreds of users indulge their discriminatory bias, though some of them dis vow them.
The worst posts are related to the Nazi genocide and its practice of making soap with the fat of the Jews previously assassinated, like: “#JewIs to travel in the car`s ashtray” or “#JewIs to cry to a soap instead of a grave”.
Some of them where also linked to a supposed greed that is attributed globally since the Middle Age, such as “#JewIs to have the freezer full of Coke and to serve tub water instead” or “#JewIs to use the classic ‘pay for me’”.
Others respond to the rightist ideology, very rooted in some traditional Argentinian territories, like in the last military dictatorship. For example: “#JewIs to Sovietize the argentinian government making it install a Marxist dictatorship”.
On the other hand, some users used the tag to criticise the initiative: “#JewIs. This tag is pathetic and much more pathetic are these sick jokes! Pathetic are those who make these jokes!” o “#JewIs, so what? Are you going to kill him because of that?”. It was also posted: “Then we complain about xenophobia, the K blogger invented the Trending Topic #JewIs… This is pathetic” and “I can´t believe #JewIs is the first TT! This is pathetic! I feel ashamed”.
The antisemitic defended themselves with the typical argument that the wouldn’t react like this if the discriminated belonged to other minorities and alluded to previous supposed tags that didn’t generate that reaction, such as “#NigerIs” or “#GayIs”. However, the Jewish News Agency couldn’t find out when this campaigns that would have been ignored by the Jews would have happened.
Finally, the tag is also used by Jews, with messages like “#JewIs that your mother tells you every time you call her: ‘You never call me’”.
The DAIA is analyzing which measures it may take.
