A Palestinian militant faction that had been in possession of abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit since 2006 said Thursday it intended to release a video recording documenting Shalit’s 5-year captivity, adding that it would prove that the Israeli soldier was treated fairly.
Abu Mujihad, a spokesman for the Salah al-Din Brigades, said that the video documented the relationship between Shalit’s captures and the IDF soldier, as well as the various methods the Palestinian militants used in order to hide Shalit’s whereabouts from Israeli security forces.
Speaking with A Shams radio, the spokesman for the Gaza group said that the recording will be released a few days following the completion of the Shalit deal, as soon as Salah al-Din Brigades, a group which participated in the IDF soldiers’ abduction, sees that all of the Palestinian prisoners are released as promised.
Abu Mujihad said that the film will prove that Shalit was treated fairly by his captures of 5 years.
Word of the reported video documentation of Shalit’s captivity in the Gaza Strip came as Hamas appeared to be pushing back criticismregarding the prisoner swap deal it signed with Israel.
Responding to claims, according to which the Gaza-ruling group should have secured the release of Fatah strongmen Marwan Barghouti and Ahmed Saadat, Hamas officials said Thursday that an insistence on the two prominent prisoners would have killed the deal, preventing the release of any prisoners.
