The British Foreign Office confirmed Thursday that a UK national died in Wednesday’s terrorist attack at a Jerusalem bus stop, the Associate Press reported.
The 60-year-old woman was critically injured in the blast and succumbed to her wounds the same day at Haddasah-Ein Kerem Medical Center. Thirty-nine others were injured in the attack; two are still in serious condition.
The UK’s Foreign Office said that the woman’s next of kin were informed and that her family if being provided consular assistance. Israeli police described the woman as a tourist, though her identity remains unknown.
The attack was the first serious terrorist bombing in the city since 2004, and for many residents it brought back terrible memories of the second intifada.
The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the IDF are investigating whether the attacker was from the West Bank.
