The Israel`s Deputy Minister of Education, Meir Porush, visited AMIA on Tuesday, as part of a tour in Argentina, where he is planning to meet with the Minister of National Education, Alberto Sileoni, and his partner from Buenos Aires, Esteban Bullrich.
Porush was received by AMIA`s president, Guillermo Borger, in Pasteur 633, where they honoured the terror attack victims from the community institution and Israel’s Embassy.
“Visiting AMIA is very painful, and when we are in Argentina we meet and remember all the people that was killed in the attacks that the jewish community suffered in this country”, the Viceminister said in a private dialogue with the Agencia Judía de Noticias (AJN).
In reference to AMIA and Israel’s Embassy attacks (1994 and 1992), Porush considered that they “were simply attacks that nowadays have an impact on the jewish life”.
“We want this to end but, unfortunately, these are facts that repeat themselves and that we regret”, the official said.
At the same time, Porush confessed: “A few months ago, in the israeli summer, when I received the invitation to visit Argentina from AMIA`s president, I was really excited”.
The Viceminister outlined the importance of meeting with the community authorities because, this way “the educational occupation isn`t protected only within the argentinian walls”.
“This allows us to acknowledge the importance of the education for the argentinan jews and the big efforts that are made to have a quality system that is recognised all over the world”, the israeli official added.
Porush rescued the possibility of travelling to Argentina because he could learn about the argentinian educational program and because he could “propose certain things and Israel can contribute in the jewish education in Argentina, which is very important”.
At night, the israeli Ambassador in Argentina, Daniel Gazit, organised a reception for the israeli Viceminister. The national deputies Alfredo Atanasof and Patricia Bullrich, the senator Beatriz Rojkés de Alperovich, and Claudio Epelman, the Latin America Jewish Congress director, among others, attended to the event.
Porush, who is in the orthodox party Agudat Yisrael and has been Viceminister since April, 2009, was asked about the orthodox conduction of AMiA.
“I personally think that all jews are equals. No doubt, this president has quality to be elected as the community president”, he said.
Today, Porush will be received by the National Educational Minister, Alberto Sileoni, while tomorrow, at 4pm he will have a meeting with the Minister of Education in Buenos Aires, Esteban Bullrich.
Before his return to Israel, on Friday, the Viceminister will visit various places that take part in the jewish educational net.
Porush was Viceminister of Housing (1996-1999) and of Housing and Construction (2001-2003).
Besides, he has been a Knesset member since 1996 and participated of different parliamentary commissions.
Porush integrates the Illegal Immigration Prevention Centre in Israel.
He was previously Vicemayer of the israeli capital, in charge of the city improvement and orthodox education secretaries. He was also member of the Jerusalem Comitee during 13 years and director of the Agudat Israel offices in his city.
