Itongadol.- Russian social site finally takes down pageant asking women who \’hate Jews\’ to post \’sexy Nazi pics\’; ADL warns of Russian anti-Semitism.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has criticized the "abhorrent" anti-Semitic "Miss Hitler 2014" beauty contest on the Russian social media site VKontakte.
The contest, which had users vote for "Miss Ostland," named for the territory occupied by the Nazis in eastern Europe where more than a million Jews were murdered, garnered over 7,000 followers before being taken down this week.
Anti-Semitic women responded to the call on the site to send entries with pictures of themselves in suggestive poses, including one posing with a reproduction German SS military hat.
"It is unfortunately not surprising but still shocking that a group of neo-Nazis in Russia and Ukraine thought up an abhorrent pro-Hitler beauty contest whose rules of entry include being a \’woman who hates Jews\’ and encouraging users to \’post a sexy Nazi pic,\’" said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor.
Foxman continued in his statement "here is a country – Russia – that lost millions of people during the war with Germany who suffered more than any other country under the privations imposed by the Nazi regime. It is also a nation where recent polling has found that 30 percent of the adult population harbors anti-Semitic attitudes."
"For us, the fact that the contest took place is a reminder of the importance of continuing education about the lessons of the Holocaust and the legacy of anti-Semitism in Russia," concluded the ADL director.
The contest was to have the winner, who received the most "likes," rewarded with a piece of jewelry from a company called "Magic Workshop." The piece was to feature one of the Nordic runes beloved by Heinrich Himmler and the SS.
A pendant combining the classic German Iron Cross and Third Reich heraldry was being offered as second prize.
