President Shimon Peres hosted a Sunday morning breakfast with Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol, who was in Israel for the first time to lead a special basketball workshop for a delegation of young Jewish and Arab basketball players.
Peres called Gasol a "role model" for children, and thanked him for his contribution to coexistence and peace.
"Sports is the best way to promote peace no matter what religion you are," Gasol said. "With sports, we all speak the same language."
He then presented Peres with a Spanish national team basketball jersey and offered his congratulations to Maccabi Tel Aviv for their Euroleague victory.
