The mobilization was headed by the Israeli ambassador in Argentina, Daniel Gazit, and DAIA, AMIA and OSA´s presidents, Aldo Donzis, Guillermo Borger and Manuel Junowicz respectively, along with hundreds of youngsters, who carried Israeli flags and others from different Jewish organizations of Buenos Aires and within the country.
During the previous walk, Donzis described Iom Haatzmaut as “the freedom party”. “Going through the streets is a way to show that we are as people, the unconditional bond with Israel and what it means and gives to the world”, he said to the Jewish News Agency (AJN).
Meanwhile, Borger expressed his “pride and happiness” because “it is comforting to feel supported by the young and all the leadership”. “In this moment where we use to talk about conflicts and departures, I think that to walk together to celebrate the first 64 years of our dear Medinat Israel is the best sample of approach and union”, he added to AJN.
Keren Kayemet LeIsrael´s president in Argentina, Adolfo Filarent, said: “I am really happy to celebrate Iom Haatzmaut in its 64th anniversary and what it means to Israel´s people: freedom, progress, work. I think it is an example for everybody”.
“The ones who live in the Diaspora can be proud to see this pushing, progressive and dynamic Israel”, he added.
For Zuli Driespel, director of Campaña Unida Judeo Argnetina, the march and the act mean “the union between the Jewish people in Argentina and Medinat Israel”.
“The emotion I feel to celebrate together Iom Haatzmaut in this place, because I can´t be in Israel, is indescribable, with so many people celebrating for Israel, Argentina´s future and world peace”, she said.
Claudio Manaker, a Latin American representative of the Jewish Agency for Israel, said: “As Israeli and son of this community I am proud to see the calla and commitment to celebrate this party”.
Among the participants were Rabbi Shlomo Benhamú, 3rd DAIA´s vice president Alberto Hammerschlag; AMIA´s general secretary and treasurer, Julio Scholsser y Bernardo Zugman, respectively; Jaier Vainberg, from FACCMA, and David Sutton, Campaña Unida Judeo Argentina´s president.
