Hezbollah threatens to topple Lebanon government over Hariri probe

A senior Hezbollah official says the Syria and Iran-backed militant group and its allies plan to resign from the Lebanese Cabinet, which would topple the unity government.
The decision by the group is linked to tensions stemming from the international tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, whose son Saad Hariri is the current prime minister. Hezbollah members are expected to be indicted by the tribunal soon.
An official allied with Hezbollah said Wednesday the group’s ministers and their allies will resign from government unless the Western-backed prime minister agrees to their demand for an urgent Cabinet meeting to talk about the tribunal crisis.
"The resignation statement has been written and will be announced at 4.30pm (1430 GMT)," he said. Eleven ministers would resign, enough to automatically bring the government down, he added.
