Itongadol.- Hundreds of Iranian women have been posting pictures of themselves with their heads uncovered on a Facebook page in protest of the Islamic Republic\’s modesty laws.
The page titled "My Stealthy Freedom" was started by London-based Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad on May 3. Since then it had already garnered over 300,000 likes.
The page is full of pictures of women of all ages sporting their bare heads, sometimes exposing smiling faces, sometimes showing their heads from the back.
According to Alinejad the page is "dedicated to Iranian women inside the country who want to share their \’stealthily\’ taken photos without the veil."
"I have no intention whatsoever to encourage people to defy the forced hijab or stand up against it," Alinejad told the Guardian. "I just want to give voice to thousands and thousands of Iranian women who think they have no platform to have their say."
Iranian law requires women to be "modestly dressed," meaning only having hands and face exposed, when out in public.
