Itongadol.- Europe Maccabi´s president, Motti Tichauer, said in an exclusive dialogue with the Jewish News Agency, Argentina, that the next European Maccabiah Games will take place in Berlin, Germany, in 2015, in the last Maccabiah that took place in July in Israel.
"We have a responsability as jews in Euorpe. We must be proud to be europeans. Personally, I see european jews, after everything that that happened there with the Shoa, as ambassadors of the jewish people. That´s why we think it is so important to celebrate the next games in Berlin. It is a political issue that will help to demonstrate that we are alive and that there were changes in Germany", he said.
"All the events will take place in the premises where the 1936 Olympic Games were played, where the jews were not allowed to participate. We will be there and we will show that we are part of Germany and that they couldn´t beat us", he added. He also said that celebrating the European Maccabiah there repesents an "historic jewish event".
"It is the most important event after the Second World War and I think that the German will understand that today, after the Shoa, there is an important jewish community that has 85 kehilot in Germany", he added. He also said that "it is a message to all the World and the Germans that means that today we are a new Germany, not the one from 1936".
"The jewish pepole lived again in Germany, after everything that happened in the Second World War. Germany is an open country today and I see an important potential, in the games and in the Hasbara, that we are not only a people of books, but also of sports", he outlined.
