Jerusalem-Arab man charged with spying for Hezbollah

 The State Attorney charged a 37-year-old Jerusalem Arab with spying for Hezbollah on Sunday.

According to the Shin Bet, Essam Hashem Ali Mashahra visited Lebanon in June 2012 with his wife and was convinced to spy for the organization. During the course of his activities, Mashahra allegedly provided information on a "long list of sites in Israel," including the Knesset, the government complex, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center, Har Hatzofim Medical Center, and the residences of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
The indictment alleges that Mashraha admitted to the acts during the course of the inquiry.
The Justice Ministry stated that Mashraha used Facebook and email to communicate with his Hezbollah handlers upon his return to Israel from Beirut. In addition, Mashraha also allegedly used an encrypted CD, disguised as a a children\’s computer game, to pass information.
Mashahra was charged Sunday at the Jerusalem District Court, and stands accused of making contact with a foreign agent, passing information to the enemy, conspiracy to deliver information to the enemy, and traveling to an enemy country without permission.
