Border Police arrested four Palestinians at the Salem Border Crossing near Jenin on Sunday, after they were found to be carrying 12 pipe bombs in their possession.
Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld added that the arrests were made after police became suspicious of the conduct of the Palestinians. A home-made pistol and a knife were also found in their possession.
The suspects were being interrogated by security forces, seeking to understand where they planned on using the explosives.
Last week, security forces apprehended two Palestinian terror suspects following intelligence received on alleged plans to attack Israeli civilians.
One of the suspects, from Jenin, was arrested in an apartment he was using as a hideout in Beersheba, aftersecurity forces received intelligence that he was planning to stab local residents. The arrest was carried out jointly by police, Border Police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).
The suspect was taken for questioning.
Meanwhile, a second suspect, from Gaza, wasarrested at a police checkpoint set up north of Beersheba following intelligence that he too was linked to a terrorism plot.
Security forces remain on a high state of alert in southern Israel due to intentions of terror organizations in Gaza and the Sinai Peninsula to launch attacks.
The police’s Southern District was also specially deployed to be able to provide a swift response time to rocket attacks from Gaza.
