Itongadol.- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke out on Thursday morning against discrimination of Israeli-Arabs, saying there was no place for the phenomenon in Israeli society.
"We should not discriminate against an entire public because of a small minority that is violent and noisy," he said.
"The vast majority of Israeli-Arab citizens are law-abiding and we are acting resolutely against those who break the law," he added.
The prime minister\’s comments come two days after a deadly terror attack in Jerusalem that killed five and in the aftermath of which tensions seemed to be rising between Jews and Arabs in the country.
On Wednesday, Ashkelon Mayor Itamar Shimoni said he would stop the city’s employment of Arab workers doing renovation to bomb shelters in local daycare centers.
Shimoni said that in the locations where construction on bomb shelters is being performed by Arab laborers, the work is to be stopped until further notice.
The mayor\’s decision was roundly condemned by Israeli politicians.
